Supreme Court hears Facebook libel case appeal

A woman who faces a six figure legal bill for telling her ex-husband’s new partner on Facebook that he “tried to strangle” her, has taken her case to the UK’s highest court.

In 2016, the High Court heard that Ronald Stocker had been arrested after putting a hand on his ex-wife’s mouth and another on her neck, leaving red marks.

But the judge in that libel trial ruled he didn’t intend to kill Nicola Stocker – just stop her from shouting. So he ruled in Mr Stocker’s favour.
