Susanne Bier on Bird Box and gender equality in the film industry

She’s the only female director to win an Oscar, an Emmy and a Golden Globe, with much to say about the lack of equal representation in the film industry. But Susanne Bier’s own career is definitely in the ascendant. After the success of her award-winning television series The Night Manager, she’s turned her attention back to the big screen with Bird Box, an apocalyptic thriller starring Sandra Bullock.

We asked her about the inspiration behind the unconventional mother figure in the film.
