Suspected Boko Haram militants attack in Cameroon

Ten people are unaccounted for after militants, suspected to be from terrorist group Boko Haram, attack a plant in northern Cameroon.

The attack on a Chinese facility in the Waza, 12 miles from Nigeria’s border, is in an area where leading Boko Haram commander Mohammed Nur is known to operate.

Chinese state news reported that unidentified assailants had attacked the plant on Friday night, injuring one person and leaving ten unaccounted for. The governor of the region, Augustine Fonka, confirmed the attack but declined to give any further details.

Sites in northern Cameroon are a common target for Boko Haram attacks. Last month, Boko Haram attacked a police post in the area – killing two.

Boko Haram attacks have been put in the spotlight following the kidnapping for more than 200 schoolgirls last month.

On Saturday, West African leaders will meet in Paris to try improve cooperation in their fight against Boko Haram.

Nigerian President Goodluck Jonathan has been under pressure since the attack, and various protests have called for the government to do more to find the missing girls.

Nigeria’s government has accepted British, French and US help in order to try and trace the girls.
