Syrians search for family in Assad’s ‘slaughterhouse’ prison

After the fast moving events of the past week when rebels took major cities and gained control of Syria, today the extent of the brutality of the Assad regime was revealed by the liberation of a notorious prison in the capital, Damascus.

Crowds of relatives and friends of the thousands who ‘disappeared’ in Saydnaya prison over the last few years have been queuing to find the fate of their loved ones, clinging onto the hope of a reunion.

Deposed president Bashar al-Assad has travelled to Moscow with his family where he’s been granted asylum by President Putin.
