Tata Steel gets funding for greener furnace but 2,500 jobs will still be lost

The government has confirmed it’s giving Tata Steel £500m towards building a greener electric furnace in Port Talbot.

That’s the same amount agreed by the Conservative government.

But some 2,500 jobs will still be lost – most of them at the south Wales plant, as the blast furnaces are shut down.
