Temperatures in France reach record 45 degrees

As England braces itself for a bit of a heatwave this weekend, temperatures in France soared to the hottest on record today, hitting 45.9 degrees Celsius in one southern town.

The French national weather service has activated its highest level heat-danger alert and thousands of schools were closed.
