Test-and-trace system still struggling, as deaths rise

In the last 24 hours there have been a further 21,242 new coronavirus cases across the UK. Another 189 deaths have been reported, taking the total to 44,347.

But all this comes amid more signs of a struggling test-and-trace system in England, as the government’s chief scientific advisor warned that a lot would depend on what happens in the next few weeks.
