The funeral of Martin McGuinness

From the rawness of today’s violence to the scar tissue of yesterday’s. The IRA gunman turned statesman Martin McGuinness was laid to rest this afternoon.  Derry’s Bogside, the place he called home and the home that defined him lined the streets in thousands today to bid him farewell.

Some, no doubt, will have wished the former IRA commander good riddance but politicians past and present joined family and friends to hear an impassioned eulogy from former US President Bill Clinton. He said that McGuinness had “earned the vast crowd today” with his conversion from the gun to the ballot box.
