The women struggling to survive in Syria’s widows village

Social Affairs Editor and Presenter

“What is the future for these people?” – the words of the UN after a decade of bitter civil war which has left Syria devastated, with millions of its people forced to flee their homes.

Men who have lost their lives or have been imprisoned have left families to fend for themselves.

In Idlib, in the rebel-held northwest of the country, more than 1,300 camps for refugee families now exist.

Some of these camps have created dedicated zones for widowed women, alone with their children – and struggling to survive.
