The young medic encouraging minority background pupils to study medicine

Medicine remains one of the most inaccessible professions. Research suggests around 80% of applicants to medical school come from just 20% of schools. Now one young doctor is determined to change that. Twenty three year old Leanne Armitage, who is studying at St George’s University of London, set up an outreach programme to tell pupils in inner city London – whatever their background – they too can become doctors. And she’s just been given a special award from the Queen for her work.
