Theresa May’s election gamble backfires

Theresa May’s attempt to take advantage of Labour’s weakness in the opinion polls has sensationally backfired. But – thanks to a deal with the DUP – she will go to Buckingham Palace within this hour to ask permission to form a government. Jeremy Corbyn has insisted she should resign, claiming Labour, despite having fewer MPs elected, is ready to serve. Meanwhile the future of the whole Brexit process is plunged into uncertainty.
