Third day without US House Speaker as Kevin McCarthy loses seventh vote

It’s supposed to be the easiest vote in the House – but infighting in the US Republican Party has reduced attempts to elect a new speaker to a farce that’s now dragged on into a third day.

And far from getting to take over the Speaker’s chair, Congressman Kevin McCarthy seems no nearer to persuading his diehard Republican opponents to back him.
