Thousands couldn’t vote during latest elections due to voter ID

New figures show some 16,000 people could not vote in July’s general election because of the new rules requiring ID.

And the Electoral Commission found that many others were put off voting entirely.

It says people from poorer backgrounds were more likely to say they didn’t vote because they didn’t have the right ID.
