Thousands in desperate need after fire destroys Greece’s biggest refugee camp

International Editor

More than 12,000 people are in urgent need of shelter on the island of Lesbos, after fire destroyed Greece’s biggest refugee camp.

This week a number of camp residents tested positive for coronavirus, and the Greek authorities say they believe the fires were started deliberately, in protest against the camp being put under quarantine. Police stopped the migrants and refugees from reaching the capital of the island.
