Thousands of council staff strike over equal pay in Glasgow

Around 8,000 council workers didn’t turn up to work in Glasgow today, in a strike over equal pay. Dozens of primary schools and nurseries were shut and services from home care to cleaning were disrupted.

The action, involving workers from the GMB and Unison unions, folllowed what they called a “lack of progress” on equal pay claims lodged by thousands of female workers.
