Three guilty over Thusha shop shooting

Three men have been convicted over a shooting in a south London shop which left five-year-old Thusha Kamaleswaran permanently paralysed.

Thusha was shot in the chest and 35-year-old Roshan Selvakumar was shot in the face at Stockwell Food and Wine in Brixton shop in March lat year.

Kazeem Kolawole, Nathaniel Grant and Anthony McCalla were convicted of grievous bodily harm with intent.

They were also found guilty of the attempted murder of Roshaun Bryan.

Victim Selvakumar still has the bullet in his head because doctors say it is too dangerous to remove, and doctors have said that wheelchair-bound Thusha will never walk again.

The jury at the Old Bailey heard that a deadly rivalry between two London gangs was behind the shooting, with members of the Brixton-based OC gang – which was later called G.A.S (Gund and Shanks) – were sworn enemies of ABM (All Bout Money), based in Stockwell.

A month before the shooting, both Grant and Kolawole sent messages to Sarah Amin, talking about a conflict with rival gang members, or “pagans”.

The trio had travelled prepared and into enemy territory and, of course, were prepared to use that loaded gun in what was another depressing chapter in an increasingly violent series of attacksEdward Brown QC

Kolawole said he was “beefing” them and “the pagans are in for it”, while Grant said: “They’re going to get fame soon in the South London Press. That’s how it always goes.”

Prosecutor Edward Brown QC told jurors: “The trio had travelled prepared and into enemy territory and, of course, were prepared to use that loaded gun in what was another depressing chapter in an increasingly violent series of attacks.”

The jury were unaware that Grant had been acquitted of a murder, along with three other men, three months previously.

In August 2008, innocent student Ryan Bravo, 18, was gunned down as he bought milk in a Costcutters shop in Walworth, south London.

At the trial, the court heard how in the crossfire of a turf war between the OC gang and the Peckham Young Guns.

At the trial into the shooting of Thusha, McCalla, who has One Chance tattooed on his arm, had admitted being a member of “Tiny OC” – 13- to 15-year-olds who were younger members of the OC – Organised Criminals – gang.

And last July, seven youngsters were arrested over the shooting 20-year-old Jaden McCalla, the brother of Anthony.
