During the past few weeks, people have jokingly said to me that after such a wet winter, we would probably end up in a drought again later this year. But what are the chances of this?
California is about to enter the peak of its fire season, and state officials are concerned that it could be particularly dangerous this year, due to much of the state being in extreme drought.

The US weather service NOAA announced today that July 2012 has been the hottest month ever recorded in the US – breaking a record set in the Dust Bowl in the 1930s.
Whilst many of us may be pleased that the warmth and sunshine has arrived, it’s important not to forget that southern and eastern parts of England are still officially in drought.
After the wettest April on record in the UK, the beginning of May looks set to continue with an unsettled theme, with a risk of further localised flooding during the next two days.
