A burst of summer heat will send temperatures into the high 20s next week, but how long will it last?
Yesterday, the hottest day of the year so far was recorded, with the temperature reaching 34.1C at Heathrow airport in London.
At the end of this week, the jet stream will briefly push northwards again, which will drag a plume of heat and humidity across us from Iberia.
Following our longest hot spell since July 2006, temperatures are going to gradually return to where they should be at this time of year, accompanied by some intense thunderstorms.
It’s been a long time coming, but it may finally be about to happen. Summer sunshine is coming later this week and could stay with us for a while.
A plume of heat and humidity is going to brush England and Wales towards the middle of this week, bringing the potential for parts of south east England to reach 30C.
An extensive heat wave is expected across Europe from this weekend onwards. Daytime temperatures in many areas south of Scandinavia will reach 30-35C, with parts of the Mediterranean approaching 40C.
