As February draws to a close, I’ve already had lots of people asking me if there are any signs of spring – a season with which its perceived arrival seems to vary greatly.
With the days getting longer and the sun climbing higher in the sky, thoughts are no doubt turning to what kind of summer we’ll have this year.
With the Easter weekend starting tomorrow, there is no doubt that many of you will be wondering what the weather will offer.
This weekend will see spring warmth return to our shores, with warmer air feeding in from the continent.
Despite the warmth and sunshine we’ve had so far this month, winter is going to bite back in the coming days and try to put spring back in its box.
March this year couldn’t have been more different from March last year, which was the coldest in half a century, leaving much of the country covered in a blanket of snow.
The past week has seen a big area of high pressure sitting across the UK, blocking weather fronts from moving in and giving many of us a dry week – welcome news following the wettest winter on record.
Spring sprang into action across England and Wales at the weekend, with Sunday proving to be the warmest day of the year so far, reaching 20.5C at Gravesend in Kent.
Following the wettest winter on record for the UK, I have no doubt that everyone will be elated at the news that high pressure is going to take residence over us from this weekend.
Whilst still a week away and subject to change, there are consistent hints that high pressure will have more of an influence on the UK than it has at any point during the past two months.
Whilst the detail is not yet concrete, there continues to be signs that we might see a burst of summer-like weather next week.
Early figures released by the Met Office suggest that spring (March, April and May) 2013 is on course to be the coldest spring in the UK since 1979.
For much of this week, the same area of low pressure is going to get stuck over us – spinning around bringing showers or longer spells of rain with just occasional rations of sunshine in between.
Once again, a bank holiday weekend is upon us and the weather will be at the forefront of most of our minds as we decide what to do during the long weekend.
