TransPennine Express to be brought under government control

Rail passengers in northern England have long complained that TransPennine Express trains were unreliable.

And official figures showed that its services linking cities like Liverpool, Manchester, Leeds and Newcastle were the worst in the UK for cancellations.

Now the government has decided not to renew its contract so in two weeks’ time, it will join a growing list of renationalised services.
