Trump accused of racism over alleged immigration remarks

“Hate-filled, vile and racist” – that’s how President Trump’s comments on immigration have been described by a leading Democratic Senator who heard him refer to Haiti, El Salvador and African countries as “shitholes”. It’s not just Democrats either.

House Speaker Paul Ryan described the remarks as “very unfortunate, unhelpful.” From President Trump himself, there has been a kind of denial,  as he tweeted that “this was not the language used”.
