Turkey election: Erdogan leads in presidential runoff

It’s being called a referendum on Turkey’s future – on the ballot a stark choice between moving further towards autocracy under President Erdogan and opposition leader Kemal Kilicdaroglu’s promise of parliamentary democracy.

The latter was the favourite to win in the first round, cashing in on widespread discontent with Erdogan’s mismanagement of the economy – but did far worse than expected – leaving all the momentum with President Erdogan.
