Turkey steps up its assault on Kurdish militia in northern Syria

Turkish troops backed by Syrian opposition forces have launched an attack on Kurdish militia in northern Syria – as part of their offensive to drive rebel forces from the area.

Troops entered the enclave of Afrin – a day after bombarding fighters from the US-backed YPG militia with jets and artillery fire. The action has led to calls for restraint from across the world and has further complicated the Syrian civil war,
