Turkey-Syria earthquake: tens of thousands still missing under rubble

The death toll from Monday’s earthquakes raced past 11,000 today.

It’s possible that tens of thousands more lie dead in the rubble of thousands of collapsed buildings in Turkey and Syria.

The initially sluggish emergency response has led to criticism of President Erdogan. He responded by promising to rehouse those made homeless within a year.

Our reporter Emily Wither has been to the southern city of Antakya which was badly hit in the earthquakes, and where the chances now of finding survivors is dwindling.
