A girl aged just two years and eight months has become the youngest child in the world to have an operation to calm uncontrolled muscle spasms by having electrodes inserted into her brain.
Viktoria Kaftanikaite, from Glasgow, underwent the deep brain stimulation surgery at the Evelina Hospital in London to control the effects of her rare genetic mutation which had halted her development and risked being life threatening.
