America and Britain have combined to accuse hackers affiliated to the Chinese state of targeting democratic institutions in both countries.
In Parliament, Deputy Prime Minister Oliver Dowden said China’s actions signalled “hostile intent”. He said the hackers were responsible for a cyber attack on the Electoral Commission in 2021 as well as attempts to spy on MPs and peers.
The government announced sanctions and said it will summon the Chinese ambassador.
China has denied being behind any cyber attacks and said the claims had been fabricated without factual evidence.
