UK has moved ‘million miles’ on LGBT rights but must be fought for says Chris Bryant MP

In 1835, James Pratt and John Smith became the last gay men to be hanged in England, despite appeals for clemency from the magistrate who’d committed them for trial.

The Labour MP Sir Chris Bryant has written a book about the couple, called ‘James and John: A True Story of Prejudice and Murder’.

We began by asking why he decided to tell their story.
