UK heatwave: ‘heat could cause death’, senior health official warns

This is serious heat that could end in people’s deaths, a senior health official has warned – with an amber warning for extreme heat already in force across England.

That will be raised to a red alert for tomorrow and Tuesday, with some forecasters predicting temperatures could hit an unprecedented 41 Celsius.

Much of Europe is also struggling with searing temperatures – which have triggered wildfires across the Mediterranean.
