UK to build new gas fired power plants in reverse on climate targets

The government has backed the development of new gas fired power plants which critics have claimed would make the country more dependent on fossil fuels.

The Prime Minister said the stations were needed to ease the risk of blackouts, environmentalists said it could threaten legally binding commitments to cut carbon emissions to achieve net zero targets.
