Ukraine invasion: ‘difficult’ peace talks with Russia end

If Ukraine does not survive, international peace and democracy will be in peril – a passionate appeal from Ukraine’s ambassador to the UN as his country came under yet more sustained attack from Russian forces.

An initial day of peace talks in Belarus has now ended – with Ukraine describing the negotiations as “extremely difficult”.

On the ground, Ukrainian forces are continuing to put up stiff resistance – but the authorities in Kharkiv said at least nine people had been killed and dozens injured in repeated shell attacks on residential areas.

Terrified families there, as in other cities, spending another day huddled in basements and shelters.
