US faces government shutdown after Trump opposes spending deal

It’s the holiday season in America, but there’s precious little festive cheer if you work in the US Government. Right now, millions of American federal workers face the prospect of being furloughed or working without pay over Christmas, after President-elect Trump torpedoed a bill to keep the government funded beyond midnight on Friday. It’s left politicians in Congress scrambling to put together a deal in just a couple of days.
