Wales beat France 16-9, winning the Grand Slam

Wales have gone undefeated for the third time in seven years, winning the Grand Slam as they beat France 16 – 9 at the Cardiff Millennium stadium in a passionate game.

There was calm before the storm – a dignified minutes silence for one of Wales’s greats Mervyn Davies who died this week at 65.

For Wales, the match against France was the first contest between the two countries since Les Bleus beat Warren Gatland’s side 9-8 in the 2011 World Cup Semi final in New Zealand that saw Sam Warburton controversially sent off.

And it was France who took the lead. Dimitri Yachvili kicking them in front.

But with the crowd behind them Wales roared into action. Alex Cuthbert racing over the line for the first try of the match.

Leigh Halfpenny would kick the conversion before his penalty would give Wales a 10 points to 3 half-time lead.

Wales’s win means they equal France’s record of three grand slams since the tournament changed from five to six nations.
