Watchdog considered closing Kent maternity unit over safety concerns

A care watchdog considered closing down a maternity unit in Ashford, Kent following concerns about safety, infection control and a lack of accessible life saving equipment.

Their findings come just months after October’s damning report into the baby death scandal at hospitals run by the East Kent Hospitals Trust. It found 45 babies might have survived if standards of care had been better.
