What will Taliban rule mean for Afghan women?

The first iteration of the Taliban saw a brutally repressive regime for all people, but for women especially.

They made significant gains after the group were removed from power – from civil society where women serve as members of parliament to education where girls could go to university.

Their progress was trumpeted by the US and its allies who encouraged women to seek more rights and freedoms.

Now, what will happen to those hard-won gains?
