Who are the Houthis?

The Houthi rebels weren’t exactly a household name outside the region. When it comes to concerns about an escalation of the Gaza War – much of the focus has been on Hezbollah in Lebanon or indeed Iran itself, which backs both groups, and leads the so-called Axis of Resistance, an anti western coalition.

One Houthi leader claimed today – all this heralds a “long term battle that will change the direction of the region and the world”.
