Wildfires reach Athens forcing thousands from their homes

A raging wildfire is burning out of control on the edge of the Greek capital Athens.

Firefighters said their efforts to tackle the blaze were being hampered by high winds and thick smoke – with some flames leaping more than eighty feet into the air.

Evacuation orders have now been issued for Athens suburbs.
