They have already spent four years and many millions of pounds, but now scientists say a research project into the spread of diseases in parts of Africa will effectively go to waste – because the funding has been cut just months before it was due to be completed.
The project at Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine is one of hundreds affected by the cuts to the Overseas Aid budget. The government says they are still investing billions in global health, but those behind the project fear it could have a lasting impact on the UK’s role as a world leader in science.
