The video, obtained by the Daily Mirror and shot by a resident in a tower block overlooking the scene, shows how three police arrived at Woolwich barracks, and were immediately confronted by the two men.

According to the Mirror, the footage shows the first suspect, named as Michael Adebolajo, coming within inches of the WPC driving the police car – before he is shot by her colleague.

Adebolajo, who was filmed by passers-by holding a machete and justifying his actions before police arrived, can be seen running towards the car. Before reaching the three officers he appears to drop something.

According to the Mirror, Adebolajo has dropped a blade he was carrying, but moves another into his right hand.

He is then shot and falls to the ground (image, above). The three officers then fire at the second suspect, named by Channel 4 News on Friday as 22-year-old Michael Adebowale, who was reported to be carrying a gun (image, below).

Late on Thursday night, police were standing guard outside the home of Adebowale. A neighbour said the man – she named him as Michael – was a university student who lives at the flat in Greenwich.
