From critically acclaimed filmmaker Penny Woolcock (Tina Goes Shopping, The Death of Klinghoffer) comes 1 Day - a hip hop musical which takes an innovative and gritty look at inner city gang culture and gun crime.

It tells the story of young drug-dealer, Flash, and his race against time to repay £500,000 to a ruthless gang boss, Angel. Flash wakes up to a phone call from Angel announcing that he's being released from prison and wants the £500k he'd left with Flash for safekeeping. Short of the full amount and pushed for time, Flash is forced to strike a deal with Evil - who more than lives up to his name. 1 DAY tracks Flash's journey as he's pursued by a rival gang, the police, his three irate ex-girlfriends and his granny.

Starring a largely non-professional cast, the film uses an original urban soundtrack mixing hip hop and grime tracks with gospel, reggae and spirituals to provide a realistic, vibrant score to the story as well as an effective way for the characters to define themselves. Filmed entirely on location on the inner-city streets of Birmingham and starring local newcomers Dylan Duffus, Orhan Whyte, Yohance Watson and Tobias Duncan, 1 DAY is co-funded by Channel 4 and Screen West Midlands.
