100,000 sign up in support of Great British Property Scandal season

Viewers of last week's Great British Property Scandal season have turned their outrage into action - within seven days, an incredible 100,000 of them have signed George Clarke's petition demanding new measures to get the nation's 350,000 long-term empty homes back into use.

The Channel 4 season, spearheaded by George Clarke, has proved an incredible success. Visitors to the website, together with users of an innovative app designed by the campaign team, can report an empty property in their area - and well over three thousand have been reported in just the first week. Once users have reported a property, from their phone or through the website, a letter automatically goes to the Empty Homes Officer in their local council and the report is followed up to make sure something gets done.

People have flocked to Facebook and Twitter to show their support and offer praise for the campaign too.  Besides trending on Twitter in the UK, George's Great British Property Scandal in the guise of @propertyscandal gained  thousands of followers each night.  And a host of interior designers, charter surveyors, design managers and builders have sent emails to George offering their services. 

George Clarke' s two part series revealed that nearly two million British families don't have adequate housing, and yet one million homes lie empty across the country, 350,000 of which are empty long term.  Appalled at such senseless waste, he examined the underlying causes and investigated possible ways to bring these properties back into use.

This highly topical season investigated some of the complex and varied issues that have contributed to the housing crisis and spoke to some of the people affected by it.
