3.4m watch Channel 4's peak time Paralympic swimming coverage

Channel 4's Paralympics coverage continued to be a consistent hit with audiences on day five of live sport as the swimming, with the women's  4 x 100m freestyle relay, peaked with an audience of 3.4 million viewers last night at 8.40pm.  Including the three Paralympics Extra streams, the action peaked with 3.6 million viewers.  The Paralympic Games 2012 Tonight programme continued to draw strong viewing figures with an average of 2.4 million, 10 percent share of the audience, watching from 7.30pm to 10.00pm.

Earlier in the evening, action from the aquatics centre peaked with 2.1 million at 6.00pm, shortly after Ellie Simmonds had won her second gold of the Games in the S6 200m individual medley. The early evening coverage from 5.25pm to 7.00pm averaged 1.8 million, 12 percent share.

The Last Leg with Adam Hills also continued its successful run with an average of 1.2 million, 6.4 percent share watching the show from 10.00pm.

Across the day, the Paralympics helped Channel 4 record a 9.3 percent share - up +42 percent versus the previous 12 month average.

The coverage of the London 2012 Paralympic Games has also helped drive impressive traffic to www.channel4.com/paralympics .  Over the first six days of the Games there has been:

  • 1.3m visits to the Paralympics site - an increase of 419% when compared to the same period prior to launch (i.e. 23-28 Aug).
  • An average of 4.4 Page Views per visit. This is the second highest engagement rate we've ever had for an external site.
  • 600k live streams since launch - with 36% of those generated over the weekend. 30th Aug is the most successful single day in terms of live streams (189k).
  • 334k video views (key moments and other clips). Therefore, over 900k total video views (including live streams) over a six day period - the highest Channel 4 has had for any site (outside of 4oD) over an equivalent period of time.
