4.2 million watch Pistorius win gold on Channel 4 Paralympics

Oscar Pistorius brought the Paralympic track and field athletics to a close last night, winning gold in the T44 400m which was watched by a peak audience of 4.2 million viewers on Channel 4 at 10.00pm.  Including the Paralympic Extra streams the peak audience was 4.4 million. From 9.55pm to 10.05pm, Channel 4 was the most watched channel on television.

Despite the Saturday night competition, Channel 4's peak time coverage maintained its audience with 2.4 million viewers, 11.4 percent share, watching the Paralympics 2012 Tonight from 7.00pm to 10.30pm.  An hour long special of The Last Leg was watched by 1.2 million, 8 percent share, from 10.30pm.

The through-the-day Paralympics coverage helped Channel 4 record an all-day share of 10.7 percent - up +97% on the previous 12 month average.   For most of the afternoon (from 12.55pm to 4.25pm), the Paralympics action made Channel 4 the most watched channel on television.
