 Viewing to Channel 4's coverage of the London 2012 Paralympic Games continued to grow on Sunday as a new high of 4.4 million viewers watched Alan Oliveira beat Oscar Pistorius to win gold in the T44 200m final - the biggest ever UK audience to Paralympic sport.  Including the Paralympics Extra channels the peak was 4.5 million.

Channel 4's Paralympics Games Tonight programme was watched  by an average of 3.3 million, 15 percent share of audience from 7.00pm to 10.45pm - an incredible 3.8 million viewers watching at 10.30-10.35pm as David Weir took gold in the T54 5000m with Channel 4 the most watched channel in the UK at the time.

The through-the-day Paralympics coverage helped Channel 4 to be the most watched commercial channel across the whole day on Sunday, including peak time.  Channel 4 averaged a share of 13.3% across peak time yesterday and 12.9% across the whole day - compared to 11.9% and 9.2% respectively for ITV1.   It was Channel 4's best performing Sunday in nearly seven years (since 11/09/05).

Further viewing highlights include:

  • Afternoon coverage was watched by an average of 1.7 million, 13 percent share - peaking with 2.4 million as Jessica-Jane Applegate won gold in the S14 200m freestyle.
  • Despite being broadcast later in the evening, as a result of Channel 4 staying with the live action from the athletics, The Last Leg with Adam Hills hit a new high with an average audience of 1.3 million, 10 percent share watching from 10.45pm to 11.35pm.
  • Mid-morning coverage attracted an average audience of 1.3 million viewers, 16 percent share from 9.15am through to 1.00pm
