Category: News Release
  • Jon Snow to share industry experience with 16-25 year olds

Channel 4’s award winning talent scheme 4Talent will be arriving in London on Friday 4 April 2014 as the initiative supporting young people in areas of high youth unemployment looking to break into the media industry continues its journey across the UK.

In partnership with Channel 4 Ravensbourne, a world-class higher education institution innovating in digital media and design and based in North Greenwich, will host the 4Talent Day which is fully booked after an overwhelming number of applications.

Working closely with the local creative industry, the day will offer 16 to 25 year olds who are keen to learn about working in the media, the opportunity to network with professionals, take part in hands-on workshops and gain an insight into the routes through to work experience placements.

Nick Raynsford, MP for Greenwich & Woolwich will be attending to show his support.

Channel 4 News’ very own Jon Snow will present his industry expertise on the day whilst Londoner and Channel 4 Drama Commissioner Roberto Troni will deliver the My Job, My Journey talk and share his employment journey from London to Manchester and back again to join Channel 4.

Attending a 4Talent day automatically qualifies young people to apply for Channel 4’s Work Experience Scheme, as a result of which 42% of participants find further experience or employment in the industry.

Another London bred talent, Efe Ezekiel of Ushine Ishine will share her story of building confidence which led to the creation of her own production and mentoring business.

The 4Talent Day in London includes six master class sessions titled Tri-Media Journalism led by Jules McCarthy; Documentary Film making with Rad Miller; Building your Personal Brand with Lydia Frempong; Presenter Confidence with Aaron Carty & Daryl Eve; Live TV Studio Practice with Ian Cownley and How to get your foot in the door with Beverley Hills.

Diane Herbert, Channel 4’s Director of Human Resources said: “At Channel 4 we know that good ideas can come from anywhere. The creative industries have huge potential to provide growth and employment, and we want to make sure that nobody is excluded from that. We have taken our 4Talent Days to many places around the UK in search of new talent with fresh perspectives in places such as Wigan, Great Yarmouth, Dundee, Cardiff and Derry and are delighted to be in the country’s capital for the next day’s events.”

4Talent’s approach reflects Channel 4’s mission to break down barriers and engage with and develop the widest range of talent. By demystifying the media sector, 4Talent aims to help young people from all backgrounds navigate their way into a hugely competitive industry.
