Ade's inspirational speech at Global Vaccine Summit

Category: News Release

Ade Adepitan gave an inspirational closing speech at the Global Vaccine Summit, attended by Bill Gates, Kofi Annan and Desmond Tutu.

This major international summit explores the critical role that vaccines and immunisation play in saving lives and keeping vulnerable children healthy.

Ade, a gold medalist and presenter of Channel 4 ‘s acclaimed Paralympics coverage, contracted polio as a baby in Nigeria, which resulted in the loss of function of his left leg, and ultimately prevented him from walking.

He told the summit in Abu Dhabi how sport, but more importantly, how the human spirit and sheer determination enabled him to overcome seemingly insurmountable obstacles to achieve his dreams.

Ade has recently returned from filming a documentary about polio for Channel 4.  Airing next month, Ade Adepitan: Journey of My Lifetime, explores why Nigeria is the only remaining country in Africa still to eradicate polio.
