Amateur jockey in the limelight

A Racing Portrait: For The Love, a 30-minute film featuring top amateur jockey Sam Waley-Cohen, will be shown on Channel 4.

The film, created by Alfred Dunhill, follows Sam Waley-Cohen, the first non-professional jockey for 30 years to win the Cheltenham Gold Cup, during the 2011 - 2012 season, in the pursuit of further race victories. 

Directed by Just So Films, the black and white film takes in racing from Britain's principal racecourses that include Haydock Park, Kempton Park and Cheltenham Festival, together with a number of rural Point-to-Point fixtures specifically staged for racing's unpaid heroes.  Racing authoritarians, Brough Scott and Sir Peter O'Sullevan, deliver strong words on the successes of the Waley-Cohen family and provide a telling insight of pure dedication and true grit. 

A transmission date of Saturday, November 24 at 9am coincides with the running of the prestigious BetFair Chase at Haydock Park in which Waley-Cohen and Long Run were defeated by the legendary Kauto Star in 2011. 

The film will also be available on 4 on Demand right up to and throughout the 2013 Cheltenham Festival (March 12 - 15).
