Channel 4 has today announced the appointment of Anne Bulford to the newly created role of Group Finance Director.
Bulford, who is currently Director of Finance and Business Affairs at the Royal Opera House and has worked previously for Carlton Communications and the BBC, will take up her seat on the Channel 4 board at the beginning of July.
Reporting directly to Chief Executive, Andy Duncan, she is effectively replacing Channel 4's long-serving Deputy Chief Executive and Managing Director, David Scott, who announced in October 2004 that he would be stepping down from his post during the course of 2005.
Bulford will have responsibility at board level for a number of key functions at Channel 4 including finance, commercial affairs, information systems, channel operations and legal and compliance.
Duncan said: "David's contribution to Channel 4 over the last 23 years has been simply immense and I'd like to thank him once again for everything he's done for the channel.
"In Anne I think we've discovered a talented successor. She combines board level experience with an in-depth knowledge of the financial workings of the television sector and she will be a significant addition to our senior executive team during an important period in the channel's development."
Anne Bulford joined the Royal Opera House in her current role in 2002 and during her time there has also served as Chair of Ofcom's Audit Committee. Prior to joining the ROH she worked for three years as Finance Director for Carlton Productions.
From 1993 to 1999 she worked at the BBC, first as Head of Internal Audit and from 1996 onwards as Finance Director for BBC Production. She began her career at KPMG, where she spent 12 years, rising to become Senior Manager, overseeing a team providing audit and general advisory services to a variety of listed companies in the UK.
Scott will step down in July. He will continue to work for Channel 4 as a consultant on a variety of regulatory and commercial projects.
