The Big Bang Theory returns with 3.3m

The opening episode of series six of American cult hit comedy The Big Bang Theory consolidated with a huge 3.3 million (11.6% share) audience - making it the biggest digital channel audience of 2012 so far outside of the Olympics; as well as the second biggest ever title on E4 after The Inbetweeners (top episode of 4.2 million on 18th October 2010).

The episode attracted a 16-34 audience of 1.6 million (27.2% share) - beating all terrestrial channels in its time slot for the key demographic.

The Big Bang Theory's previous highest consolidated audience was 2.3 million on 19th April this year.

Jay Hunt, Channel 4's Chief Creative Officer said; "Big Bang's phenomenal success comes just after E4 posted its best ever monthly share for 16-34s and confirms the channel's position as the number one destination for younger audiences."
