Biggest ever win on The Million Pound Drop Live
Category: News ReleaseNick, an outdoor instructor and Katie, a sales account manager, have become the biggest ever winners on The Million Pound Drop Live, taking home a staggering quarter of a million pounds.
Nick, 27 and Katie, 26, from Essex had been playing online just two weeks ago when they applied to go on the show. They have been dating for a year and a half and were hoping to win some money on the show so that they could furnish their first home.
It was a big money night which earlier in the show best mates Natalie and Coral beat the drop and take home £75,000.
From the start of Nick and Katie's game, they followed their instincts and spread their money wisely to make it to the all-important question 8 with £250,000 still in play.
In their final question, Nick and Katie had to guess which famous Rupert came into being first, deciding to leave ‘Murdoch' empty, putting their potential winnings on ‘Bear' - a move which could have seen them lose quarter of a million pounds! But once again, following their instincts paid off and the empty trapdoor dropped as they were crowned the biggest ever winners in the show's history. With their winnings, as well as furnishing their house, Nick hopes to buy a van and Katie wants a puppy!
Hosted by Davina McCall, The Million Pound Drop Live sees contestants given £1million in cash at the top of the show - but they must try to keep hold of it over eight tough questions.
The show's white knuckle tension is played out on a fiendish device with four trapdoors, on which the answers to each question are displayed.
Contestants can place all their money on one answer or spread the risk, but if their money is on the wrong answer, it will be lost forever. One wrong move could literally see thousands of pounds drop through the floor.
Viewers at home can play alongside the contestants with a virtual million pounds with the hugely successful play along online game. And like Nick and Katie, playing online could even get you on the real show. The only way to apply to get on the show this series is by playing along in the online game. Whether you win or lose your virtual million, you could find yourself whisked to the studio alongside Davina to play the game for real within days of playing the game online.
The series was ordered by entertainment commissioner Syeda Irtizaali and will be executive produced by David Flynn and Tom Blakeson. Michelle Woods is series producer.
