C4 goes behind the nation's changing room doors in new fixed-rig show

Category: News Release

“Does my bum look big in this?” will be a question that the whole of Britain will soon be able to answer as Channel 4 has commissioned new fixed rig show The Secret Life of The Fitting Room (1x60’) which will see cameras go behind the fitting room curtains of well-known high street retailers, documenting the critical decisions we all make every time we choose to buy a new outfit .

From bored boyfriends, shopaholics seeking a fix, guys getting suited up for Saturday night, mums choosing clothes for their darling kids and the emotional upheaval of finding the outfit for a very special occasion, the nation’s shopping habits will be undressed. The Secret Life of the Fitting Room (W/T) aims to give fresh insight into our sometimes mystifying decisions about what to wear and our views on how we look with heart, humour and a little bit of drama mixed in, whilst keeping modesty intact.

Commissioning Editor, Features, Nick Hornby says, “I’m thrilled to be working with the team behind This Old Thing  and Secrets of the Shoplifters again… the super-focussed access feels scary but also exciting, marrying the humour and heart of the best documentaries with classic features takeout.”

Executive Producer, Andrew Anderson says, “We all buy and wear clothes, but the actual shopping experience isn't often a shared one, particularly in the fitting room. This show goes behind the curtain, into the revealing, emotional and highly entertaining world of the fitting room, capturing us at our most vulnerable and triumphant.”
